How to quick capture into Notion
Oct 31, 2024
This article will teach you how to create a lock screen shortcut for quick capture in Notion—all without leaving your lock screen, allowing you to easily return to your previous task.
Note that this feature requires iOS 18, which now supports customizable lock screen controls, replacing the previous default flashlight and camera options.
Step 1: Create a shortcut in Shortcuts
First you need download and open Shortcuts app by Apple. Then create a new shortcut and search Notion to see the available actions from Notion app. Look for the action that says “Create Page Without Opening” and click on it.
Step 2: Set up the Shortcut
First, click on the Title field and select the variable "Ask Each Time."
I leave the Body empty, but you can also select "Ask Each Time" for it if you prefer.
For the Database field, you have two options: choose a specific database like your task or notes database, or save to private pages. I prefer saving to private pages because my workflow involves processing these loose pages in my private section when I return to my desktop at the end of each day.
Step 3: Customise the look of the Shortcut
The next step involves choosing an icon for how your shortcut will appear on the lock screen. Click the dropdown beside the shortcut name, then select "Choose Icon." From there, pick the custom icon option and search for a symbol you like.
Step 4: Add the Shortcut to Lock Screen
To wrap it up, go to the lock screen customization. Tap the minus icon to remove any existing lock screen control, then tap the plus icon to search for a new control.
In the control library, look for the "Shortcut" option. You'll be prompted to select one of your shortcuts, and simply choose the shortcut you created in the earlier step.
